Swedish Port Strikes Set to Disrupt Operations Nationwide

Strikes in Swedish harbour

A series of strikes on the Swedish harbours between May 21st, 2025 and June 15th, 2025 may result in disruptions and delays in shipments to and from Sweden.

Labour unions Transport and Hamnarbetarförbundet have announced a series of strikes and blockades at Swedish harbours, citing the absence of a collective bargaining agreement.

The actions begin May 21st, 2025, with Hamnarbetarförbundet launching a full strike from 12:00 to 18:00, followed by an ongoing support strike by manning companies. Transport will implement a blockade from 16:00, halting external staffing, hiring, and overtime in all ports.

Further escalation includes a nationwide full strike on all Swedish harbours, from May 22nd, 2025,  at 09:00 to May 26th, 2025, at 22:30, and targeted strikes by Transport between May 30th, 2025 and June 15th, 2025.

Since May 8th, the government has appointed mediators to uptake negotiations with the Swedish Harbours association and the board meeting took place on Wednesday, May 14th. We are closely monitoring the developments in possible countermeasures. More updates will follow as the situation develops.

At LEMAN, we will do our best to minimise interference and keep you up to date. Please be prepared for possible delays and contact your LEMAN contact person if you need alternative transport solutions.
