UPDATE – Sep 30, 2024:
As of today, negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) have failed to reach a conclusion.
The strike is planned to take place as of midnight tonight and will impact nearly all ports on the East and Gulf Coast.
Some ports have announced early closings and cutoffs for September 30. All vessels scheduled to arrive will likely remain outside the ports until the conclusion of the strike.
On Friday, Biden administration officials met with the USMX employer group to directly convey the message that they need to be at the table, negotiating in good faith fairly and quickly, which is a message that was delivered earlier to the ILA. Though as of now, their is no anticipation of intervention by the US government.
We encourage customers to reach out to their LEMAN contact for more detailed guidance and to discuss contingency plans for minimizing the impact on their supply chains.
We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.

September 26, 2024:
LEMAN is closely monitoring the potential for strikes at key U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast ports, which are anticipated to begin as early as October 1st, 2024. The strikes, led by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), could significantly disrupt port operations, leading to delays and increased costs for shipments.
At LEMAN, we are working proactively with our customers to mitigate these risks. Our team is already exploring alternative shipping routes, including shifting some cargo to West Coast ports and expediting deliveries where possible.
We encourage customers to reach out to their LEMAN contact for more detailed guidance and to discuss contingency plans for minimizing the impact on their supply chains.
We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
Kind regards,
LEMAN
